Obligations, Sunnah, and Recommended Acts of Umrah

The farz of Umrah is entering into ihram. Without entering ihram, Umrah cannot be performed. Those intending to perform Umrah must enter ihram before reaching the miqat. To enter ihram, it is recommended to practice cleanliness by trimming nails, removing underarm and pubic hair, and, if necessary, shaving the head and beard. Performing ghusl (ritual bath) is sunnah, and if it is not possible, a regular ablution (wudu) can be performed. After ghusl, one may apply non-staining and fragrant perfumes.

The rukn of Umrah is tawaf, which involves circumambulating the Kaaba seven times, starting from Hacer-ül Esved and keeping the Kaaba on the left side.

Recommended Acts of Umrah:

• Praying two rakats before entering ihram.
• Praying after tawaf.
• Shaving or trimming hair after sa'y: For men, shaving the head or shortening at least a quarter of their hair fulfills the sunnah. Shortening only a quarter of the hair fulfills the obligation. Women should shorten their hair by one to two centimeters from the ends to fulfill the sunnah.
• Drinking Zamzam water.

Important Considerations During Umrah:

• Adhere to ihram prohibitions: Certain actions such as hunting, applying perfumes, and cutting nails are prohibited while in ihram.
• Maintain decorum during tawaf and sa'y.
• After completing Umrah, shave and exit ihram.
