How Is Tawaf Performed? A Step-by-Step Guide
A step-by-step guide to performing tawaf: its conditions, the seven rounds, ramal and idtiba, and the tawaf prayer.
Visit Tawaaf is one of the obligatory acts of Hajj and can be performed from the dawn of the first day of Eid al-Adha until the end of one's life. However, it is essential that this Tawaaf is performed during the days of Eid al-Adha, specifically before sunset on the third day. If delayed beyond this point, a penalty sacrifice is required, and completely neglecting it will invalidate the Hajj.
The most virtuous time to perform Visit Tawaaf is on the first day of Eid al-Adha.
Pilgrims who have entered into Ihram prior to this Tawaaf must refrain from approaching their spouses until they have completed the Tawaaf. After completing the Visit Tawaaf, Sa'y is performed (if it hasn't been done already), followed by a return to Mina.
The Tawaaf begins from the corner where the Hajr al-Aswad (Black Stone) is located, and pilgrims make seven circumambulations around the Kaaba, keeping it to their left side. Each complete circuit is referred to as a "Shawt." Completing seven Shawts constitutes one Tawaaf.
If any of these essential components are neglected, a penalty is required. If the Tawaaf is repeated, the penalty is lifted.
The Visit Tawaaf is a significant act of worship that embodies the spirit of Hajj. Following the proper guidelines and performing the Tawaaf with sincerity and devotion will enhance the spiritual experience of pilgrims.
