Jabal al-Rahmah (the Mount of Mercy): A hill of granite rock on the northern edge of the Plain of Arafat, popularly known as "Mount Arafat." It is the blessed spot where, a hundred years after his descent to earth, Adam (a.s.), having completed the building of the Kaaba, was reunited with our mother Eve. On the Day of Arafah the Prophet (s.a.w.) prayed the noon and afternoon prayers at Masjid Namirah, then came to the plot of land at the foot of Jabal al-Rahmah on which the Masjid al-Sakhrat stands, and performed the Wuquf of Arafat there.
Masjid al-Sakhrat: Located on the right as one climbs Jabal al-Rahmah, enclosed by a wall about half a metre high, roughly 13 metres long facing the Qibla and about 8 metres wide. The Prophet (s.a.w.) delivered his Farewell Sermon here. In accordance with the Prophet's (s.a.w.) hadith, "The whole of Arafat is a place of standing (Wuquf)" (Muslim, Hajj, 149), the Wuquf may be performed anywhere within the area of Arafat. However, because the Prophet (s.a.w.) performed his Wuquf on the 70-metre-high Jabal al-Rahmah, on the hillock of Nabit between the hills of Naba and Nubay'ah, in the northeast of the Valley of Arafat, pilgrims wish to be at that same spot and its surroundings. For this reason this area has always been the one most exposed to the crowding of pilgrims, and the social facilities built to serve pilgrims have concentrated mostly in this vicinity.
