Travelling to Umrah with Children: Practical Tips

Travelling to Umrah with Children: Practical Tips

With the right preparation, performing Umrah with children is not only possible but an unforgettable spiritual experience for the family. Here is what to keep in mind:

1. Documents and Health Preparation

  • Make sure your child's passport is valid for at least 6 months from the travel date.
  • Visa and vaccination requirements may vary by age; be sure to inform our agency of your child's age during registration.
  • Consult your paediatrician before the journey and pack basic medicines (fever reducer, saline solution, etc.).

2. Children and Ihram

Children who have not reached puberty are not religiously accountable, so Umrah is not obligatory for them; however, if they perform it with intention, they receive reward. Observing the ihram restrictions is under the guardian's supervision, and no penalty applies to violations by small children.

3. Managing the Crowds

  • Prefer performing tawaf and sa'y at relatively quiet hours (after midnight or mid-morning).
  • Put a wristband or card on your child with your name, hotel and phone number.
  • Set a meeting point and teach older children the gate numbers of the Haram.

4. Accommodation and Programme

  • A hotel close to the Haram is the greatest comfort for families; it allows rest breaks during the day.
  • Strollers can be used in the courtyard and on the upper floors of the Haram; access to the ground-floor tawaf area may be restricted at busy times.
  • Adjust the pace of the programme to your child; aim for peaceful, quality worship rather than attending everything.

5. Leave a Mark on Your Child's Heart

The moment they first see the Kaaba, drinking Zamzam, the pigeons... Collect small moments that will make your child love this journey. An Umrah performed in childhood plants the seed of a lifelong love for the Kaaba.
