Masjid Namirah

Masjid Namirah

Masjid Namirah is the great mosque in which the Prophet (s.a.w.) led the noon and afternoon prayers, combined, in Arafat. During the Farewell Pilgrimage a tent of goat hair was pitched for the Prophet (s.a.w.) on the small hill of Namirah to the west of Arafat, and here, on a flat area in the Valley of Uranah where the boundary of the Haram ends, the Prophet (s.a.w.) led more than 120,000 Companions in the combined, advanced performance of the noon and afternoon prayers before proceeding to the place of Wuquf. A mosque was built on the spot where the Prophet (s.a.w.) prayed, and it became known, after the neighbouring hill, by the name "Masjid Namirah."

The Valley of Mughammas

In pre-Islamic times the army commanded by Abrahah, which marched on Mecca intending to destroy the noble Kaaba, camped here before attacking Mecca al-Mukarramah. Today the valley, known as the Green Valley, lies on the right at the 5th kilometre towards the road to Ta'if, after passing the boundary signs on the way from the ninth road of Arafat towards Saylul Kabir.
