This mosque stands opposite the Mosque of the Jinn. The Prophet (s.a.w.) met with a delegation of jinn at the site of the Mosque of the Jinn. The Prophet (s.a.w.) used to recite the Qur'an at various times and places in order to convey the revelation to the jinn. One day, while going with Abdullah ibn Mas'ud to a place near Hajun, he drew a line on the ground and asked him not to cross it, and recited the Qur'an to the jinn on the far side of the line. Ibn Mas'ud (r.a.) related the matter thus: the jinn asked the Prophet (s.a.w.), "Who will testify that you are the Messenger of Allah?" Nearby stood a gum tree. The Prophet (s.a.w.), pointing to the tree, said: "Do you see this tree? Would you believe if it bore witness?" The jinn said, "Yes, we would believe." The Prophet (s.a.w.) then called the tree, and the tree came, dragging its branches and boughs behind it; he asked it, "Do you testify that I am the Messenger of Allah?" The tree replied, "I testify that you are the Messenger of Allah." A mosque was built on the spot where that tree stood and this miracle took place.
